Ensuring a Safer Cannabis Future for Virginians

A parent-driven, family-focused platform that empowers Virginia voters to better protect our youth by helping General Assembly legislators shape safer cannabis laws to closely regulate Virginia’s Cannabis Industry.

Why Join This Conversation Right NOW about Safer Cannabis in Virginia?

After years of efforts, in January 2026 legislators in the Virginia General Assembly will begin final discussions to FULLY legalize cannabis!

Without YOUR Active Voice and Direct Participation, big industry insiders and politicians will shape laws that may NOT reflect the values or interests of our families and children.

With today’s widespread use and legalization of marijuana (herein referred to as “cannabis”) in Virginia and across America, many people are concerned about the safety of cannabis use, particularly among underage youth.

As Virginia lawmakers prepare for January 2026 discussions to fully legalize adult-use cannabis, we believe it’s time for every Virginian to have a voice in how this industry develops.

WHO WE ARE

A Statewide Movement for Safety & Community

Several years ago, a group of very concerned parents, community leaders, advocates, and voters from across Virginia began meeting to discuss the coming Virginia Cannabis Industry.

Since organizing, the group has conducted a series of discussions about ways to ensure the safety of cannabis-related products that are sold in Virginia.

An outgrowth of the discussions is the development of VirginiansForSaferCannabis.org, a parent-driven, family-focused platform now supported by thousands of parents, community leaders, advocates, and voters across Virginia.

Our mission is simple:

To ensure our youth, children, and grandchildren can live in a safe environment alongside a responsibly developed cannabis industry.

WHAT WE DO

Balancing Safety and Industry Growth

We believe Virginia can have both:

Protection for our youth and communities
A vibrant, healthy cannabis industry creating jobs, business opportunities, and investments

Our goal is to protect future generations as Virginia’s Cannabis Industry grows. We want to keep our youth, children, and grandchildren safe—while also supporting the growth of a strong, healthy Cannabis Industry that creates good jobs, high-paying careers, and opportunities for both investors and small Virginia-based businesses.

So far in Virginia, most conversations about fully legalizing cannabis have taken place between large out-of-state cannabis companies, their lobbyists, and politicians. Missing from the table are Virginia’s parents, community leaders, local advocates, and voters—people who will soon see more cannabis retail outlets in their neighborhoods, towns, and cities.

That’s why VirginiansForSaferCannabis.org exists—to give you and your family a voice in these discussions before cannabis laws are finalized in early 2026. The Cannabis Industry will be huge in Virginia and will have a lasting impact on communities across the state. We invite you to join us in shaping laws that protect our youth while ensuring the benefits of a well-regulated, thriving industry are shared by all Virginians.

In recent years, numerous fatalities in Virginia and across the U.S. have been linked to cannabis products contaminated with fentanyl.

While cannabis itself is more than proven to have many health & medical benefits, ANY products – even with just a few milligrams – of Fentanyl are extremely dangerous to the point of being deadly.

Here on this platform, we are gravely concerned about the widespread use of Fentanyl and the resultant deaths that are caused by this deadly substance.

With a well-regulated Virginia Cannabis Industry in place, we feel the number of incidents related to Fentanyl may be greatly reduced, thereby ensuring better safety for both our youth and the general public.

What is Fentanyl?
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid roughly 50–100 times more potent than heroin or morphine

Nationwide Harm: In 2022, the U.S. recorded 73,654 deaths involving synthetic opioids like fentanyl—about 200 deaths per day

Virginia’s Crisis:

  • Fatal fentanyl overdoses in Virginia increased over 20-fold since 2013.

  • In 2022 alone, 1,951 Virginians lost their lives to fentanyl

WHY YOUR VOICE MATTERS

The Shift in Responsibility

Our goal is NOT to oppose the growth of Virginia’s Cannabis Industry. We support creating more jobs and career opportunities for Virginians, attracting investment, helping small Virginia-based businesses succeed, and finding ways to grow Virginia’s tax base. Our primary mission is to protect those who are most vulnerable—our youth, our children, and our grandchildren.

Take Action

In years past, it has been law enforcement and the many tentacles of the judicial system that were charged with enforcing Virginia’s cannabis-related laws.  Given the imminent change in Virginia’s laws about cannabis, it is now the direct duty — even the responsibility — of parents, community leaders, and voters across Virginia to become intimately involved in helping to create new cannabis laws, then monitoring the regulation of Virginia’s burgeoning Cannabis Industry.

GET INVOLVED

Join the Effort – Be a Voice for Safety

With the quickening pace legislators are moving to form Virginia’s Cannabis Industry, there is a definite need to form statewide groups of parental-oriented, voter-driven “Cops On The Beat”  that both help to craft and monitor this new industry.  In doing so, we hope you will Join Our Efforts as Parents, Community Leaders, and Voters work to protect Virginia’s youth as the Cannabis Industry is developed in the Commonwealth.

As with every significant parent-oriented and voter-led effort, the Most Impactful participants are those with great passion about an issue — the safety of cannabis — who actively reach out to local politicians.  In Virginia, your elected state Senator and House of Delegates member are your direct contact about the legalization of cannabis.  In early 2026, they will vote on how Virginia’s Cannabis Industry will operate.

The time to reach out to YOUR legislators is coming up with our September 1, 2025 Kickoff leading up to the 2026 Virginia General Assembly session.
